Northbound Leather, the ToroGRUE & Nuit Blanche

Days away, now.

I had a meeting at Northbound Leather yesterday with the lovely Enza, talking about the ToroGRUE and how Northbound could be involved. And, frankly, it’s more than I expected.

As well as being a part of their latest newsletter, the ToroGRUE is also posted on their site, on their Upcoming Events page. Scroll down a little bit and you’ll see the posting for the GRUE. (That’s my rope, A’s arms, and KK’s photography.) To buy a ticket for the ToroGRUE from Northbound’s website (yeah, they set that up for me as well… like I said, more than expected), click on the poster for X-Posed at the top of the events page and it’ll take you to a menu with the GRUE graphic. Click on that, and you’re on the purchase page.

They are also lending me a suspension frame for the day, which will be helpful for the session on suspension harnesses I HOPE happens. Everyone gets in to the Northbound Party that night, for more playful antics. I’m looking forward to all of it.

And later that night, Lord Morpheous will be hijacking Nuit Blanche with a three hour long piece called “Salon des Refusés partie deux” taking place at Koma Designs, 1239 Queen West, just a bit west of Dufferin on the south side. Graydancer will be joining the show and tying for some of that time. That’ll just be the beginning of the evening, with the Northbound Party & the rest of Nuit Blanche to follow.

Kink Is Everywhere: Part 487

A close-up of an ad for a new Gaultier perfume, seen on the subway here in Toronto.

Between this and the previous post, I sense a theme coming on. If anyone out there has other examples of blatant kink imagery in public venues, send the pics my way and I’ll post them here.

nicely wrapped

Taken today, in a downtown Chapters. Birthday present, indeed.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what the book is about. I just liked the cover.

More on the DSM

This article from momlogic.com brings the conversation about kink as a mental disorder into more of the mainstream. What I find important about the article is in this line:

“Why is this so important? If you meet the criteria for a DSM-approved disorder, it could affect you at the workplace — and even in child custody agreements.”

To me this is one of the key things preventing People of Kink from coming out as such. I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently, as the ToroGRUE develops, and as I think about planning other such events, and making TheControlEnthusiast.com into a bigger part of my life – in a professional way. Do I want to keep operating under a pseudonym? Statements like the above sort of prove that it is, at least for the moment, a lot safer.

almost ready

Two weeks today, until the Toronto GRUE. It’s the first event like this I’ve thrown, and so far it seems to be coming together pretty well. I feel like there’s still lots of things I need to do before the actual day, and I know I’m going to feel tight for time by the middle of next week. But that’s just how it goes, isn’t it?

There are still tickets available, for anyone who’s interested. Goodhandy’s is a big venue, but I’d like to keep the group a manageable size. Having said that, the more voices and brains I have in the room, the better the event will be on the whole. So, if you’d like to attend, email me at grue@TheControlEnthusiast.com with how many tickets you’d like, and I’ll connect with you about payment and other event information.

In any case – I’m excited. I’ve already started to come up with some ideas about my next possible event, which will hopefully be fleshed out (mmmm) a little bit more during my trip to NYC in the late autumn. Plans, plans…
